Frequently Asked Questions About Window Blinds

What type of woods are the blind made of?

Wholesale Blind Factory’s premium wood is made of 100% Kiln Dried North American Bass Wood, which is one of the so-called North American hardwoods. North American hardwoods are the preferred choice of manufacturers because they are strong, lightweight and durable enough to avoid unusual warping and cracking.  Though there are stronger wood materials, they tend to be too heavy for use in a blind.

When not to choose wood blinds

Though wood blinds are considered top of the line, durable and esthetically pleasing, they are subject to warping and cracking under high-heat or high-humidity.  For example, we would recommend Faux wood blinds for bathrooms, some kitchen environments and for windows that get a lot of intense sunlight (e.g., in the desert).

How do I determine the slat size for my window?

Wood blinds come in a wide variety of slat sizes and slat size should, typically, be determined by the size of the window.  The larger the slat’s size the better the view when the slats are opened simply due to the greater amount of space between the slats.

Window Treatments

When people start thinking about redoing a room in their house, they often leave window treatments until the end, or they forget about them altogether. That is a mistake. Window treatments can make a major difference in the feel of a room, and can make an ordinary room look stunning. Not only do they have to tie into the overall theme, they affect the light that will illuminate the space. Do you want something open and airy? Is grand and stately more your style? Perhaps you would like a romantic and cozy feel? All of these moods can be created with the proper window treatments.

Reduce Wasted Energy

They can also have an important effect on your energy usage. Dark shades can keep a room cooler in the summer, and more open window coverings can let in more warming sunlight in the winter.

5 Tips for Selecting Window Treatments

  • If you want to create a softer look in a room, choose a sheer window shade. This lets more light in while also allowing you to keep your privacy. If a sheer will let too much light in, you can still get that soft look but with room-darkening or light-filtering sheer treatments.
  • If you are worried about your kids getting tied up in the cords, you are not alone. We offer many attractive cordless options that remove that problem entirely.
  • If you are looking for the classic look of wood blinds, you might already know about the problems they present in terms of fading, warping, or breaking in extreme sunlight exposure. However, what you might not know is how good some of the faux and engineered wood blinds can look, and perform.
  • If you are considering vertical blinds, look for ones that are energy efficient. Ideally, they work without weights or chains, and they employ softer fabrics.
  • If you are not sure what kind of shades you need, you may want to look into roman shades or roller shades. These products bring a unique and upscale look to any room in your home.

Making the right choice can have financial effects as well. Window treatments are one of the few interior decorating choices that are visible from the outside. Getting the windows right can have a positive effect on the ever important curb appeal should you decide to sell your house.
