What Are Shades?

Window shades are a continuous roll of fabric that covers a large area of a window opening. The window treatment’s main purpose is to regulate light and maintain privacy. You can choose between different levels of opacity to suit your light preferences but they do not offer light filtering as blinds do. The fabric material offers a warm and flowing feeling. They fit perfectly into your window and stay neatly at the top. They are either drawn up and down by cords or by a spring device. Some of the most popular types of window shades are Roller, Roman, and Cellular.

How to Properly Measure Your Window Before Installing Blinds and Shades

To ensure the correct fit, measure your window before going to a store or ordering online. Take precise measurements for width, height, and depth.

Inside Mount shades and blinds are installed inside the window recess.

Take measurements for the top, middle, and bottom window openings. Round the smallest dimension up to 1/8 inch.

Using the same approach as the width, measure the internal height of your window.

Measure the window diagonally.

Outside Mount shades and blinds are installed above the window frame.

Determine how far your blinds or shades will extend. Blinds should have a 1-inch overhang on each side of the window.

It can be difficult to predict how long it will take to install a blind. Blinds or shades should be installed 1 to ½ inch above the window opening.
